Visita Iglesia - Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Padre Garcia, Batangas

The Church of Padre Garcia

Last September 7, after doing a school project I decide to spend my time in the Church of the Our Lady of the Rosary. The church upon entering the plaza poses a rustic feeling and a peaceful atmosphere back then I usually pass this church when my ride goes to Tiaong Quezon. According to the marker next to the main door of the church Padre Garcia was the original town of Rosario. The place became the settlement of the natives from Lobo escaping pirate attacks. Later the church was burned during the Phil-American War and was abandoned and the place was called "lumang bayan" since then. The seat of government was then transferred some three kilometers away, to the present site of Rosario town.

The image of Saint Joseph

In 1928 the Oblates of Saint Joseph administered Lumang Bayan, In World War II the church again was burned and reconstructed by the OSJ .The name of the town was later change to "Padre Garcia"  in honor of the Fr. Vicente Garcia, a native of Brgy. Maugat Padre Garcia.

The exhibit proper

Last Oct. 9-12, Primera Salida held a Marian exhibit in cooperation with the city government of Mandaluyong. The exhibit venue was the Madaluyong City Hall, featuring various titles of Marian images owned by the citizens of the city. It so happened that Oct.12 was Friday and I was in Quezon City for a tour at ABS-CBN. I immediately proceeded to Mandaluyong to see the exhibit on its last day.

Upon my entry in the City Hall compound, the carroza's for the procession were ready. Inside the City Hall building a Mass was held and a rosary followed. The procession started from the City Hall towards the the Parish of San Felipe de Neri. A total of 15 Marian images participated in the procession.
